ACB? Yes, you read that right. It stands for Anti-Covid Brigade. That’s what Khalid, Aziz and Christelle, members of the anti-covid unit at this year’s edition of the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles du Maroc, have decided to call themselves: “We’re here hoping to be of no use, but ready to act if a case is suspected“, says Christelle.
An exceptional year calls for an exceptional plan.
Full vaccination and a negative PCR test are required to take part in the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles du Maroc for Gazelles, organizers, and service providers alike.
The daily challenge: “keeping the Rallye in a protective bubble”
A health protocol was drawn up ahead of time by Maïenga, organizer of the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles du Maroc and the medical team attending the event. The ACB is in charge of implementing this protocol by raising awareness and making reminders of the safety measures.
They have been busy from day 1: verifying the health passes of the 750 people present at the bivouac, distributing bracelets to certify compliance, installing 31 specially-designed hand sanitizer dispensers, putting up signs, reminding the different section heads and service providers of the protocol, being on duty during meals to ensure that masks are worn…
Every day they repeat these tasks and organize a “hand sanitizer round” to fill the dispensers.
The daily challenge is to keep the rally in its protective bubble, to prevent intrusion and avoid possible contamination from the outside. Moving the bivouac is a tricky moment for the ACB: they need to be extra vigilant about safety measures and make extra reminders. Everyone’s cooperation is essential in order for the rally to continue under the best possible conditions.
“The goal is that the constraints don’t spoil the rest of the experience. There is very little reluctance because everyone is aware of how lucky they are to be here“, observes Christelle.
An ACB fan club has started to form, with several people applying to join this fine team that approaches each day with joy and good humour.
