Some vehicles won’t be able to continue after yesterday’s leg in the dunes, announces Dominique this morning to the Gazelles, who are disappointed for the teams concerned. “Take good care of the third member of you team, your vehicle, you want to reach Essaouira still driving”, cautions the Maïenga CEO. As in previous days, the draw to select teams who will sleep in a “luxury tent” is a great success. Teams 133 (Séverine DUHAMEL / Angelika OLIVIER)and 506 (Lucie PAPUT / Céline MICHOUX)will be the lucky ones tonight.
“This morning, CP1 and CP2 are automatic so don’t expect to see a flag or CP attendant”, announces Ludo to the Gazelles, who listen, focused, maps and rulers in hand. “We’re not used to working with 1:250,000 scale maps”, explains Daphnée of Team 260 (Fatym LAYACHI / Clémence LABATUT). Because the little (good or bad) surprise for this leg: the Gazelles have to make do without their 1:100,000 maps. Aïcha and Dominique of Team 265 (Aïcha ICHALALEN / Dominique WIEDERKEHR) say they are “full of hope” even if “it’s going fine on the maps in general, but on the terrain it’s another story”, they laugh.
On the start line, most teams appear to have taken Dominique’s advice to heart. “We’re going to take things cool, at least until CP3”, says Anna-Bella of Team 192 (Anna-Bella PEREIRA / Christine DORIDANT). “The goal is to have a fun day”, adds her teammate Christine. In any case, the scattered clouds at the beginning of the morning should herald a cooler day, which is good news for the Gazelles!
